The Power and Authority of an Apostle

Updated: May 7, 2020

Read 1 Cor 9

Am I not an Apostle?

There are many who claim this title. A true Apostle is made evident by fulfilling the ministry of an Apostle.

1. First and foremost he is sent, into all nations, (not a nation of choice)

to make disciples. Ma.28; 19,20

2. The work of the cross is evident in his life. Lu.14:27 1 Cor. !:17,18

3. The fruit of the Spirit, is there, in abundance. Ma.7:16-20

4. The signs of an Apostle follow him. Ro.15:19 2 Cor.12:12 Heb.2: 1-4

Am I not free?

He whom the Son sets free, is free in deed. Jo.8:32 & 36 Ro. 8:2

1Cor. 7:21,22 1Cor.9: 19 Gal. 5:1 1Pet.2;16 1 Cor. 9: 19

He is free from sin, bondage of the law, from all men or bondage of any institution of man. He is about the Lord's’ business of making disciples.

Are not you my work in the Lord?

The authority of an Apostle is not forced upon men but is gained by the service of love and the humble work of the cross, men are more than ready to acknowledge the work of Christ in them. These disciples of Christ were made disciples through Paul's obedience to go and make disciples in all nations.

Have we not power to eat and drink?

An Apostle has the promise of God he is not concerned about food or drink. Mat 6: 33

Have we not power to lead about a sister, a wife....?

There are no restrictions, God will provide for the team.

Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges?

2 Pt. The soldier is not concerned about his provision, he who plants a vineyard,

partakes in the fruit thereof. We do not muzzle the ox that treadeth the corn and etc. Notice this is normal practice, therefore it needs not to be even discussed at length. Beware, when men want to make it a big deal.

2: 1- 3 (through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you.) Remember it is the responsibility of the believer is to simply trust God. It’s not his place to make sure others are doing their part.

The true believer will go in faith expecting all to come in God's perfect timing.

Unbelief is often disguised by pointing out other men's responsibilities.

If we have sown unto you spiritual things, is it a great thing if we reap your carnal things?

The laborer is worthy of his hire, those who have suffered in the making of disciples are worthy of this acknowledgment.

If others be partakers of this power over you, are not we rather? There seems to be no lack of people who are willing to take this benefit who are not worthy; beware!

Nevertheless, we have not used this power; but suffer all things, lest we should hinder the gospel of Christ.

The God-fearing man would rather suffer need than to do anything that might put the testimony of Christ in jeopardy. He realizes the love of money is the root of all evil. Therefore he is careful and will not want to show to much degree of importance on money.

What is my (or his ) reward then? If I do this willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will , a dispensation of the gospel is committed unto me. When I preach the gospel, I make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel. This quality of service will be greatly rewarded with an incorruptible crown.

I am made all things to all men, that I, by all means, save some. An Apostle does not impose his culture on the nations but must adapt to each people group as he goes.

But I keep under my body and bring it into subjection: The work of the cross is paramount in the Apostle's life.
