FAITH COMES BY HEARING NOT SEEING

Updated: May 7, 2020

“And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.” Lu.16: 31

Is this true? The rich man is in hell and wants to rise from the dead so that he can go and tell his five brothers so they won't end up in the same place of torment.

To see a man resurrected from the dead is the greatest miracle of miracles. But he is told, “If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.”

It is common to hear we need more miracles in our church. People will believe in miracles, but in order to grow in their faith, they must hear the Word of God. (see Ro. 10: 17)

To believe in God is no great thing, even the devils believe. Our Lord is desirous for us to believe all that he says he will do. Likewise, there are those who believe in miracles that fail to believe the Word of God.

The Bible is without question the Word of God. Therefore it would be wise to believe it even when it goes against our human reasoning. In our world sight is the ultimate but not so in the Spirit world. Jesus deemed it necessary to bring this truth to the disciple (Apostle in training)

Thomas after His glorious, historical resurrection...

“But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples, therefore, said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.

Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side,: and be not faithless but believing.

And Thomas answered and said unto him, my Lord and my God.

Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

Jo.20: 25-29

Faith is extremely important and we all would do well to ensure that we indeed are walking in the faith of Christ Jesus.

In our world, our physical senses play a very dominant role in all that we do. Not so in the Spirit world, we are informed that God is a Spirit and that we are expected to worship Him in Spirit and truth. Jo. 4: 24 God the Creator of all is not only a Spirit but invisible. However, this should never hinder our faith in Him.

“Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory.’’

1 Pt.1: 6

We read in Ro 10: 17. “ So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

“The Word of God.”

Often the question comes how can people in the old testament believe in Christ? Better to ask how could they not believe the Word that brought all that appears into existence. The Word that was made flesh was not made any greater by becoming flesh.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the word was God.” John 1: 1

Faith cometh by hearing, not seeing, hearing reveals loving attention. Children often fail in hearing not because of the inability to hear but by being distracted. Our heavenly Father chooses to give the precious gift of faith to those who hear Him.

Recently I came to realize that I don't love music the way many do because I fail to hear the notes. If I truly loved the music I would seek to hear music.

“For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness;” The Bible speaks much about the heart. For example.

“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life”. Pr.4: 23

Ro.10:10 “Jesus said my sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”

The voice of God plays an intimate part in the daily life of a faithful disciple.

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” Ro.8: 23

Faith for many seems mysterious, the obvious reason is they are not hearing. In Romans 10: 14 The question is given, “ how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard?”

When our Lord speaks faith (rhema) is born.

Beloved, when was the last time you heard from Our Lord God? The Word of God creates faith in the heart of those who have ears to hear. To fail in hearing reveals a heart issue. We usually listen carefully to those that we love.

Let us pray for the faith that worketh by love. Gal.5: 6
